SIMPLE YUMMY NAIVEDYAM - PAAL SADHAM




Glad to post the delicious, simple easy to prepare naivedyam on the THAI POOSAM day. Thai POOSAM is a festival celebrated on the POOSAM star in the THAI month and also on the full moon day in the Tamil month Thai. This festival  recalls the occasion when Goddess Parvathi gave Murugan a spear ( வேல்) so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman and his brothers.  
     Speciality of the festival is the KAVADI ATTAM.  This is the ceremonial dance by devotees. It is performed by devotees to honor Lord Murugan. The Kavadi is a semicircular, decorated canopy supported by a wooden rod that the pilgrim carries on their shoulders to the temple. The devotee makes pilgrimage with the bare feet with the Kavadi. 
          Another popular event is the PAAL KUDAM. PAAL Kudam means carrying milk in a vessel in a form of pot which is decorated by flowers carried on the head to offer to Lord Murugan. Later the milk is use to do abhishegam  for Lord Murugan.

Lets move on to the recipe.

INGREDIENTS

 Milk                  - 2 Cup

Raw rice            - 1 Cup
(Cooked)
Sugar                 - 1/4 Cup 
(Unbleached)
Ghee                   - 2 Tbsp

Cashew, raisin  - one hand full

Cardamom      - 2 pods

PROCEDURE
 
1. Mash the hot cooked rice.

2. Boil milk in a sauce pan.

3. Add the cooked rice , allow to cook along with the milk.

4. Once the milk blend with rice add in the unbleached Sugar.

5. Allow to cook with occasional stirring.

6. Add in 1 Tbsp of ghee.

7. Add in the freshly grounded cardamon.

8. Roast the cashew and raisin in the remaining ghee and add on the top of the Milk Sadham.

9. Switch off the flame. 

10. Delicious, yummy PAAL SADHAM is ready for Naivedyam.
