INSTANT BESAN IDLI ( Dhokla Style)

Chickpea flour (BESAN) has high protein content and dietary fibers. Its also rich in calcium, iron, Vitamin B6, magnesium. Its a healthy food because it is gluten free and cooked by steaming method.

As we tried Instant Khaman Dhokla, kids became fan of it. So thought of trying it as Idli form with little variation. This time too I got perfect hit in the recipe, kids enjoyed it. 

Lets move on to the tasty spongy instant BESAN IDLI .




INGREDIENTS

Batter

Chickpea flour (BESAN)  - 1 Cup

Wheat rava (fine)             - 1/2 Cup

Green chili                         - 2

Ginger garlic paste           - 1 inch

Curd                                    - 3/4 Cup

Salt                                      - as per the taste

Sugar                                  - 1 Tsp

Turmeric  powder           - a pinch

Lemon juice                      - 1 tsp

Eno fruit salt                     - 1 Tsp  

or Baking soda                - 1/2 tsp

Coconut oil             - 1 Tsp

Tempering

Oil                        - 1 tbsp

Mustard seed       - 1/2 tsp

Split urad dal       - 1/2 Tsp

Hing                     - 1/4 tsp

Curry leaves       - 2 springs

Topping

Shredded coconut

PROCEDURE

1. In a bowl, mix wheat rava with curd and keep it 10- 15 minutes

2. Grind green chili to coarse paste.

3. Then add chick pea flour (sieved) , chili paste, salt, sugar,  turmeric powder and mix with water little by little to form a smooth batter.

4. Then add lemon juice ,oil and mix well.

5. Place Idli cooker or steamer with water in medium flame.

6. Grease a idli mould with oil.

7. When the water start heated up, its right time to add eno salt to the batter and pour the batter to the greased idli plate. (eno fruit salt can be replaced by 1/2 tsp of baking soda)

8. Steam the idli around 10- 12 minutes.

9. Allow them to cool for few minutes.

10. Meanwhile ready with tempering.

11. Sprinkle shredded coconut over the idli and pour a spoon of tempering over each idli

                             

10. Then unmold the idli using wet spoon.

                               

11. Yummy tasty Dhokla Style BESAN IDLI is ready to serve with green chutney or sweet chutney.
